We have lot’s of finger-pointing and alibis when it comes to discussions about traffic.
But what about the solution?
Let us unite and get to common ground and let’s find solutions.
1. Promote the Use of Small Vehicles:
Our roads are not getting bigger as the vehicle sales are, so here are the things we could do:
– No big vehicles in CBDs
– Promote use of E-bikes, bicycles and motorcycles. It is just common sense that the smaller a vehicle occupies on the road, the better.
– Give emphasis and utmost importance to pedestrians.
Like what they say in Dubai, if you build it, they will come. Meaning, if you build wider, connecting pedestrians, people will use it. Human power baby.
2. Create Another Business District Outside of Metro-Manila
Again, “If you build it, they will come.”
All roads are congested because people go to the same work places at the same time but when it is Sunday or a holiday, the roads are clear.
Places you can build are Ilocos in the north, Batangas in the south, Zambales in the west and Infanta in the east.
It is not true that we are over populated. We are just jamming ourselves in one area.
WHY WILL THE COMPANIES GO AND BUILD THERE ON THE NEW CBDs?
Tax cuts. Free land use for 20 years or what not.
What about my employees who live in the Metro?
2 WORDS. Stay-in.
Your household helpers do not go back to their provinces at the end of their shifts. OFWs take 2 years before they get their vacation. Seamen takes 3-8 months before they get back home.
I know what I am talking about because I was an OFW for 5 years and getting away from your family for a week is not a very long time.
Since the companies are getting FREE land use, they can use the money to build rooms for their employees for a minimal free of what not. The employees can come home every week and believe me, that is not a long time. Plus, they can save money, time and energy traveling in traffic.
That is also a big plus for companies because they will always get a well-rested employee everyday.
3. USE THE SEA TO TRANSPORT BULK PRODUCTS:
Philippines is surrounded by the sea. We must use them.
Factories should be located outside of Metro-Manila. Giant Malls should NOT be located along major highways. There should be at least 10 kilometer spacing between them. A lot of people are jamming at these malls and are always creating traffic anywhere.
4. USE THE TECHNOLOGY:
“Like what the president said, If you don’t know how to use the powers of your computers, throw it away.”
In other developed countries, they use technology for their business and they embrace it.
LIKE IN REGULAR BUSINESS MEETINGS ~ Instead of always dressing up, driving 3 hours in traffic and paying exorbitant parking fees and polluting the environment more, why not have a regular meeting online via SKYPE or VIBER App. Webcam meeting.
In my line of work which is designing, I have been using technology to communicate with my clients all over the world and I have been doing this for the past 10 years now. I have not seen some of my clients in person.
I am not saying that this works for all but, for those businesses that can, use it.
WHO CAN USE THIS TECHNOLOGY:
- Call Centers
- Job Interviews
It is not impossible to think that some people on that traffic jam are just going to buy stuff that can be bought even cheaper online.
A good example is the www.LAZADA.com.ph where you can choose products online and they deliver it to you and you pay CASH ON DELIVERY.
Internet nowadays is just being used by the majority to pass gossip and misinformation, why not use it for a real good purpose.
My ideas maybe out of this world but hey, so is our problem with the traffic.
