[November 15. 2015] Thousands of cyclists gather from all over the Philippines to celebrate this beloved annual biking event, The Tour of the Fireflies now on its 16th, dubbed the B.I.G. RIDE – 16th TOUR OF THE FIREFLIES.
This much-awaited event is a movement to find immediate & long-term solution to traffic, air pollution and the most dreadful, climate change.
Today, Pinoy Adventure Riders will ride not only for cleaner air, national bike lanes & climate change, but also, to fight against animal cruelty specially to dogs, the man’s best friend. We RIDE today to END the DOG MEAT TRADE in the Philippines!
Thousands gather at the Tiendesitas Shopping Center in Pasig City.
The route this year will be a leisurely 30 kilometers with slight uphill roads. From Tiendesitas, we rolled to EDSA highway, passing Ortigas Ave., Aurora Blvd. in Cubao, East Ave. and finally turning right at Quezon Ave. moving towards Quezon City Hall.
After taking a short break, we rolled towards Commonwealth ave., turning right at Tandang Sora Ave. Heading towards Marikina city, we turned left at Aurora Blvd. going all the way to Marikina City.
After resting a bit here, we moved towards Marcos Hiway and then left to C5 towards the Finish line at Tiendesitas.
It was a great ride. The number of bikers that joined is unimaginable. Like every time, not everyone is in a positive mood. The motorists were furious because the roads have to shut down to give way to the bikers. And it’s a Sunday.
We have to do this again and again until a glare of hope appears, before it’s too late.
Keep cycling, keep smiling, and help us make the shift towards a bicycle friendly Philippines.
Pinoy Adventure Rider, in partnership with Animal Kingdom Foundation, Inc., wants to help spread awareness regarding enforcing the Republic Acts 8485-Animal Welfare Act of 1998 (Amended in 2013) & the Anti Rabies Law of 2007-against illegal dog-traders. This is the main weapon utilized by Animal Kingdom Foundation in its day to day operations against animal cruelty.
We cannot do this alone. We need your help rescuing and rehabilitating slaughter-bound dogs in the Philippines.
